The new sci-fi thriller Attack the Block invades theaters in select cities today.
Written and directed by Joe Cornish, Attack the Block follows a gang of tough inner-city kids who attempt to defend their neighborhood against an invasion of savage creatures, turning a south London apartment complex into an extraterrestrial war zone.
The cast, primarily made up of young black unknown actors, were put through an intense and grueling auditioning process. During a recent interview, the film's director Joe Cornish revealed that he auditioned numerous kids to portray the tough gang of friends who protect their neighborhood from aliens.
Every culture has its potentially offensive stereotypes. Blondes are dumb. White people can't dance. Native Americans love to gamble. All Asians are geniuses. Most Latinos are illegal immigrants.
Media outlets can perpetuate these beliefs and keep them alive for decades. But, sometimes, members of those communities perpetuate them on their own.
There are, in fact, certain stereotypes about the black community that are believed and passed down, not by outsiders, but by folks within the black community itself.
Deepak Chopra's LeelaTHQ LOS ANGELES (AP) - At the end of a long day, many gamers zone out by competing in online death matches, or they check out by escaping to virtual realms. Spiritual leader Deepak Chopra is hoping gamers will instead choose to chill out with "Leela," his ambitious new effort to combine gaming and meditation. By: Derrik J. Lang, Associated Press
"I personally believe that you can accelerate neural development and biological evolution through video games," said Chopra. "Unfortunately, that's not what we're doing right now. What we're doing is creating addictions to violence, adrenaline and mindlessness, rather than mindfulness. That was my personal motivation to get involved in this medium."
"Deepak Chopra's Leela" from THQ Inc. will use the Xbox 360 console's controller-free, camera-based Kinect system to detect users' bodies, then guide them through meditation exercises. (An edition for Nintendo's Wii requires players to hold a controller.) "Leela," which translates to "play" in Sanskrit, is less of a game and more of an experience, though there are a few gameplay elements.
Seven different interactive exercises based on the seven "chakras," the points along the body that Chopra says serve as energy centers, task players with moving their bodies to control graphics onscreen set to a soothing
Wow the Hype is Building up. More on that later. What's really going on. Why are they telling us to "Watch the Throne?"
Is Jay-Z & Kanye West’s Watch The Throne Aimed At Lil Wayne?
It’s the first thing that came to mind as soon as Jay-Z and Kanye West unveiled the name of their upcoming joint album, Watch The Throne. Don’t act like you didn’t think the same thing, either.
The album’s title comes across as a thinly veiled trigger to remind the Young Money/Cash Money massive that Jay and ‘Ye are indeed hip-hop’s kings. The art form’s competitive nature also lends itself easily to the theory; after all, Wayne has dubbed himself “the greatest rapper alive.” Over the years Jay and Weezy have had a friendly rivalry, which seemingly was squashed with the collaborative tracks “Mr. Carter” on Tha Carter 3 and “Hello Brooklyn 2.0″ on American Gangster.
The minute everything started looking kosher, Cash Money master Birdman a.k.a Baby and Jay ended up in an assumed war of words. The story goes that after Baby was vocal about Wayne being named number two (behind Jay) on MTV’s Hottest MC’s In The Game list, Jay hit back (coincidentally) on the first release from Watch The Throne‘s recording sessions. “H.A.M.” featured a verse from Hov sounding like it was aimed right at Baby’s claim to riches: “N*ggas fantasize about the shit that I do daily/Like these
In a recent interview with Vibe, legendary hip-hop producer and rapper Dr. Dre sent us into a collective swoon when he let it drop that “for a long time,” he’s wanted to make an instrumental album about Earth’s solar system called The Planets. Each track would consist of Dre’s interpretations of the planets in the solar system. And he’d need surround sound to convey the majesty of Saturn. In Dre’s words:

In the All of the heavens we have Dark matter. Dark Matter is the triple blackness that of witch everything comes from. This is the great mother also known as the Holy Ghost. Then there is the great Sun. The father, the center of the heavens witch all things dance round for the warmth and fertilization. The planets, moons and stars are the children, the sons and daughters. This is the great cycle in which everything comes from. WE
While more and more people are starting to panic and feel the pressure of the economic woes, uncertain times, end of days, and just plain Fear Of The Unknown...Guess What I'm Doing?
WE ARE CHILLING BIG TIME! We Feel Great About the Present & the Future!
I'm not really concerned with UFOs, Comet Elenin, Obama, 2012, blah blah blah, yada yada yada, or any of the other Hot Topics. My Main Concern is Manifesting, Creating My Reality...All Day Everyday.
Jay Hova isn't scared. All Black Everything.
Like Jay-Z said,
"I'm Focused Man!!"
Not that I'm not aware of that stuff I'm just ON TO THE NEXT ONE. Viewing everything from a different viewpoint, that of an OBSERVER. Letting the chips fall as they may without getting vexed about the outcomes (TIP: it's actually much less stressful and in the long run a wiser approach to life). Besides, if you are not in a position to affect REAL change on a broad scale there is no point in worrying about what takes place on the broad landscape.
No matter how RICH you are you can control YOUR REALITY. Doesn't matter what anyone thinks about Comet Elenin or any other so-called End Time events, it's all working out to MY BENEFIT!
ITS ALL ABOUT THE NU AGE PHILOSOPHY! In Other Words Figure Out Your Own Agenda!
Now That I've Gotten that Out Of The Way, on to the Topic of Discussion.
Lots of people, mostly white folks, are worried about this object in the sky that has been dubbed "Comet Elenin". I won't go into detail, the article and video below do a good enough job explaining. Even Mayan/Olmec researcher Carl Calleman has come out of the woodwork to claim that the comets are lining up with Mayan/Olmec prophecy.
Check This out:
CARL CALLEMAN FINALLY TALKS ABOUT ELENIN (he says sh*t is about to hit the fan)
This is important enough to deserve a pin
You couldn't get more official than this. Leading researcher in Mayan calandar says Elenin and Honda are the two comets talked about in prophecies and they are going to cause problems.
Skip to 29.40 mark where he is asked if he wants to add anything to this interview.
YOU WILL BE AMAZED (NOT MY WORDS!!!)
Please don't be scared or worried by this post, I'm mostly tripping because this Hopi Indian who shared the info is an "El". Peep the info. Only take with a grain of salt.

A descendant of a Hopi Indian Trbal elder living in Millersville, PA., has broken a vow of silence with fellow descendants in order to warn fellow Pennsylvanians of an impending earthquake that could impact thousands in central Pa. (Peep his name) Chikawa El Miesseni, who goes by the name Alex Grande, told local officials that the Hopi prophesies are more specific regarding the physical
Haha, this is funny b/c I was just saying to a couple of friends how the NBA players should start their own league. The NBA is nothing without the "B" in NBA. They run The Show whether they realize it or not. Imagine how boring it would be if all the talent (i.e. black players) decided the grass is greener overseas.

What’s it like being a $20 million dollar man… particularly when that’s per year? Just ask international superstar Akon, who made Forbes 2009 list of Hip Hop Cash Kings alongside 50 Cent at #4, just a few notches above his slot at #12 in 2008. Of course, that $20 million is most likely underestimated, as this dynamic Senegalese-American entrepreneur is involved with everything from fashion to diamond mines worldwide.
Considering Akon is on a plane most of his life these days, who better to share the world’s optimal travel destinations to visit? During promotion time for his fourth studio album Akonic, UrbLife.com asked the 30-something star to fill us in on how we can best fill up our passports! In fact, the only way you might know his real age is to see his passport! Ha!
Read on, and start making plans for your next dream vacation!

I would definitely say Senegal, because that’s my home town [Dakar]. It feels good to be home after touring the world, it’s great to be at the crib eating that fried corn and sitting by the beach and enjoying the smell of

Oakland Institute just completed the most thorough investigative report on who's buying land in Africa we've seen yet: "Hedge Funds Grabbing Land in Africa," as BBC called it.
As commodities prices rise and inflation picks up, the OI made the report public, they say, because the number of investors buying up land in Africa concerns them.
For obvious reasons, there isn't much out there about who's buying what and how much in Africa. But what OI has discovered is a small number of investors paying sometimes nothing for large plots of land in some African
