POSSE | THE COWBOYS AND THE INDIANS

Damn this could be a photo of my great grandparents.
I'm really feeling this movie, cause when I research my family background I find out that my ancestors were the Cowboys and Indians, straight up.  I've seen photos from the 1800's of my great-great's sitting on horses with guns and cowboy hats/boots.  I know for a fact that my great grandfather was a Blackfoot Indian.

Thing is, my ancestors are Black (Moors).  Most Black Americans have no idea that this part of our history even exists.  They don't know that Black people were living in the Americas way before Christopher Columbo set foot over here.  Most people have no idea, as the movie points out, that most Cowboys were Black!  Matter of fact Black people in North America had everyone else outnumbered until the great migration of European immigrants in the early 1900's that came through Ellis Island (Statue of Liberty) in New York.  Taking this fact into Consideration and it makes sense that most Cowboys and Indians would be Black people.

This is a great film though, check it out.  Let the kids watch it (I tell mine its about their great, great grandfather. LOL).  WE HAVE TO TELL OUR OWN STORIES BECAUSE NOONE ELSE IS GOING TO TELL IT RIGHT!

Okay I'm through lecturing...

Check out this account interesting composite of untold American History: As early as 1654, English and French explorers in the southern Appalachians reported seeing dark-skinned, brown- and blue-eyed, and European-featured people speaking broken Elizabethan English, living in cabins, tilling the land, smelting silver, practicing Christianity, and most perplexing of all, claiming to be "Portyghee." Declared "free persons of color" in the late 1700s by the English and Scotch-Irish immigrants, the Melungeons, as they were known, were driven off their lands and denied voting rights, education, and the right to judicial process. The law was enforced mercilessly and sometimes violently in the resoundingly successful effort to totally disenfranchise these earliest American settlers.
